Week 9, Thing 23
1.What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
Check out Jaclyn's Favorites on Maryland's Sandbox Wiki. Most of these I will keep on using in the future because I enjoy them. Yes, I even like using Wiki now.
2.How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
I have another resource now. Before, when I did research for myself I didn't use the Internet that much because I worked at the one of the branches and it was easy to find a book, or two, or ten that I could check out and I was good. Since 2.0 I've found more options on the Internet that i actually enjoy using.
3.Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
There were some site that I wasn't fond of compared to others but that's because I see a need to use all of them. They just didn't catch my eye like the others. But I'm glad to know about them. Maybe I'll find a reason for those site to use in the future.
The only unexpected event that happened was some random guy from South Korea posted a comment on my blog that was a random comment that had nothing to do with what I was blogging about. It just proves my point that I was making about blogs about how it's a little scary that everyone with an Internet connection can see what your blogging about. That's why people should be careful about how much personal information you put on these things.
4.What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept? And last but not least…
Overall, I wouldn't change a thing. I'm not sure if this is what you want but when I looked at the participants for other counties some of them labeled the participants under their name (ex. Jane D., Mark W.)instead if the web address. Some even put aberration of the branches next to the names. I liked that so it's easier to find a fellow co-worker.
5.If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
Definitely yes. I enjoyed learning about all the different site that I can use to personally and for work. I've never really paid attention to site like fickr or del.icio.us or LibraryThing before because I either didn't know about them or I didn't want to take the time to learn about them on my own. Now I love them and now when I'm planning things in the future I'm thinking "I can use this site for this and that on for this" I love see the possibilities.
6.How would you describe your learning experience in a few words or a few sentences, so we can share our successes and promote this program?
Enlightening! I'm so glad I participated. It was a great learning experience.

Week 9, Thing 22: Overdrive and NetLibrary
I Love Them! But I think I love Overdrive more....maybe it was because it was the first one I looked at or maybe it's because it already works with the MD book site that is on CCPL website. The overview for both of them are great. They went into great detail, explaining everything very clearly. It seems so easy.
I have major plans for that MP3 Player. I can't wait!

Week 9, Thing 21 Podcasting
I thing we could really use this in the Library. We could use it to post librarian book reviews or preview to storytimes and puppet shows on our website. Or use it some way to get customers interested in coming to the library.
Out of the three podcaster I liked yahoo podcaster the best. I could listen to the episodes with no problem. The only problem I had with this one was that I could not subscribe to broadcast. When I have a little more time I go back to it and figure out what I did wrong and get it on my bloglines.

Week 9, Thing 20: Youtube
My brother is the first one to introduce me to youtube or maybe in way my finance... i dunno. But when my brother first showed me it was great, because we were watching these music video by OK Go- Here it Goes Again. We watch video, I don't know how many time, just for amusement and to trying to show everyone in the family. I think Youtube great way for people to express themselves and just have fun. Though I do think the people who do the Lego version of everything, *(yes I mean everything from parts of Harry Potter to a version of the music video I posted above) have a little too much time on there hand. Well at least there not doing anything harmful.
One way we could use this in the library is too tape some of our puppet shows and post them on our website after they have finished, for those children who didn't get to see them or want to see them again.
This video is great!

Week 8, Thing 19: Netvibes
Okay. Yes, I chickened out and went to the short list of websites and just found the winners. Meh. In my random search of them I found Netvides and fell in love with this site. I enjoy how everything is on one page and I don't have to go from site to site to check my different email accounts, and I can see some news and find out what is going on in the world. I will be making this my homepage when I finally get an computer of my own(hopefully soon!)It will make everything faster. The only concern I have with this site is all my usernames and passwords saved to this site. But I guess it's no more of an risk than any of the other site.
Week 8, Thing 18: Zoho Writer
This is really neat. I like how everything is online. It makes it easier to find and organize anywhere you go. I feel like I dont have to get extra programs on my computer now that I know about this. They have there version of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. It's cool
Week 7, Thing 17: Sandbox Wiki
Okay... I really like Wiki now. I had fun playing around in the sandbox, creating a page and adding it to the home page and then figuring out how to put my blog page on to it too. It's very easy to use.
Week 7, Thing 16: Wiki
When I first thought of Wiki, I thought of Wikipedia. And I never really like Wikipedia in the past... It's a good idea and sounds great but how do they keep it safe and truthful.
So I read up on some of the Wiki that other libraries are using, and thought they were good. I liked the way they all had a different twist on how they used their wiki page but I kept thinking how it could be unsafe. So I check to see if I could edit it... nope. (One point for wiki) So good, they can keep random people out from changing their site.
Then I had to go back to Wikipedia and figure out how they keep it truthful with everybody in the world able to edit it. After awhile I found the FAQs and was able to find out that people are monitoring all the changes people make on the site and can see who is making the changes. (Another point for wiki) I have faith in Wiki and Wikipedia now....YAY!!
I like how Princeton Public Library use their wiki for book reviews.

Week 6, Thing 15: Library 2.0
As I was reading through the five different article about the future of libraries and was really interested in the article "Into a new world of librarianship". I enjoyed reading about the different types of librarian.
One thing that I came across that I know has been talked about in meetings when I was at Westminster Branch was using Instant Messaging to Ask A Librarian. I think this is a great idea. Not everyone likes going up to the Librarian and asking them for something or calling them up but instant messaging would be a great way to get by all of that. It's a convenent for those stuck to the computer people or students who are doing major research. Theoretically, not everyone is going to get a answer right away. I will have the some of the same problems like the phones. The most effective way I can see this being implemented is using instance messaging in CTR. This way the librarians in the branches are able to help those customer at the library. In addition to that, maybe have one librarian at each branch who is not in the customer eye, could be on call for the instant messaging.
I would defentally be something to look futher into since this is more and more a computer aged world. I know we have ASK 24/7, but it would be nice to have something offered to the customer that is more personal in a nonpersonal setting. This way you could possibly know who you are talking to when you are online.
Just a thought!

Week 4, Thing 9: MERLIN
I've hooked MERLIN up to my blogline!!
I was looking trough MERLIN and found the page with the Gaming, Avatars and Virtual Worlds link. I have heard of Second Life and i don't plan on trying it because I've heard how people get sucked into that site and never come back. Just kidding! What I did hear way how people are living their lives on that site instead of in the real world.
Geocaching?!?! I love geocaching! I've only found about 10 items in the past year but i love it. I was so happy we learned about it during staff day last year. I even got Zac into it and he love it too!

Week 6, Thing 14- Technorati
Learning 2.0 <- That's what I first typed into this blog to see if it would come up in Technorati. I'm thinking it take about an hour before the site picks up you blog. I know this is similar to Del.icio.us where you can find website with different tags but i think it's a little creepy that my blogs show up there to. I know that's always going to happen with online post, that anyone can find it. But I don't really like it. This is probably why I don't normally post anything online. You never know who going to see it. I'll just try not to think about it.
Other than I think it's cool site.

Week 6, Thing 13- Yum It's Del.icio.us
Righ now i haven't don much with this site i've only added a few things into my favorites but I love it. It is so much better than the normal favorites on the toolbar. With this I can see what I've saved so much clearer. It give me a small decribtion on what is on the page, how I've tagged it and other people that have tagged it. I can see where this is so helpful for research. i can save whatever i need and get try to get a hold of people who are also looking at the same thing. This one is a keeper!

Week 5, Thing 12 - Rollin with Rollyo
This is something that I think I would not use unlike some of the other things we've learn already. I see where it can be useful in situation. It helps you have a more defined search so you don't get random things, like when you search on google or yahoo. But right now I don't see where I would use it.

Week 5, Thing 11 - Library Thing
I love this site. Now I have a permanent place to record all my books and look for new ones to read. Like I really need that I'm already behind on the books that I have checked out and am trying to read.

World of Warcraft: Amazing Mage
This game is why most young people from 13 to 25 never get anything done. We all want to be this good. So, in the end we must keep playing.

Week 3 , Thing 7- Supermarket 2.0
An interesting video I found on another blogger's site. I thought it was cool since we are learning about this stuff.
Week 3, Thing 5 - Taking a look into Flickr
The pictures along the right side of Lillyrose's spot are pictures that I found on Flickr under there "Last 7 Days" selection, except for the last one that's mine. "Last 7 Days" have random photos that are some interesting things discovered on Flickr within the last 7 days. These are just some that I enjoyed.

My New Spot
Yay! A new place to blog, haha. Ok, I'm just kidding, I'm not the blogging type but I'll try. I've started these things before and they've never lasted long. But hey, I still have my Myspace and facebook, even though I don't post anything anymore. It's more of a place to keep in track of friends.
Well here go! Maybe I'll get inspired and write something interesting :-)
